The Westmead Surgical Society (WSS) was founded in 2019 by surgical prevocational trainees for surgical prevocational trainees at Westmead Hospital.
The Society functions to represent all prevocational trainees at Westmead Hospital with an interest in pursuing a career in surgery by building and harnessing collegial relationships at all levels of the Department of Surgery, work closely with the Western Sydney Surgical Skills Network to deliver the highest quality of surgical education and promote a safe working environment.
Our projects have included developing and running weekly teaching sessions for Junior Doctors, establishing a mentoring program between general surgery SRMOs and SET trainees, a variety of charity events and well-being programs for Westmead Hospital surgical trainees.
The WSS logo was chosen through majority vote by all members. Its design incorporates one the most fundamental skills of surgery: a surgeons knot. The logo was designed by Dr Michael Lee.
The WSS constitution was passed in 2019 at the first Annual General Meeting.
